Lake House
Our firm was contacted by clients who wanted to build a small cottage on property they owned along a river in southern Virginia. The site was high above the water and jutted out into a wide part of the river. It was heavily wooded and they wanted to keep as many trees for privacy, but not undermine their view from the house.
One of the clients is an artist and light was imperative as well as a studio space. They wanted the house to have a very intimate feel about it, but contemporary at the same time. A first floor bedroom was a must with secondary guest rooms upstairs. The clients also wanted the "public" rooms open to one another for flow as well as taking advantage of the views of the river and the natural surroundings. They also wanted to be able to grow the compound with additional buildings over the years to give it a "Adirondack" camp feeling.
