New Antebellum House
The client was interested in a "new old" house and ...this project was based on a Charleston plantation dwelling from the Georgian era. The challenge was the extreme slope of the building site. Since the house had to be elevated to create light filled living spaces, it made for spectacular long range views from the front porches. The siting also made the rear yard very intimate. A whimsical waterfall and koi pond soothes one while relaxing on the rear balcony or from the flagstone patio encircling the back of the home.
The house had two main entrances. One on what was actually the basement level, but contained a foyer that could serve as the main entry into the home. The second entry was accessed by ascending an exterior stairway leading to the upper porch and main level. The interior includes such rich details as a library with cherry wood bookshelves and fireplace; two master suites; his and her baths with a spa walk-in shower; studio; butler's pantry that served dual duty as a wet bar during functions; formal living room with coffer ceiling and a stained glass skylight illuminating the second floor hall. The basement contained a three car garage; extensive storage; media room and a memorabilia room (the client was an avid sports collector).
